umm...

Hello xanga, it's nice to see you again.  It's been quite some time hasn't it?

Well xanga, let me tell you a little something about life.  It can certainly surprise you sometimes.

I've had a roller coaster of a year, but what else is new?  I can say though that it is ending on a very good note.  I have a love who loves me.  Remember that Eric guy?  Yeah, he's the one.  We spent our first Christmas together and it turns out, my family loves him too.  They have never gushed over a guy I've introduced them to.  Never.  It feels really good.  He and I are just so right.

I'm in love.  I did not see this coming when I moved to Korea.  Like I said, life sure can surprise you.

Happy...

Thailand

Thailand was stellar!  I had a great time.  And I'm not kidding when I say that there was no part of me that wanted to come back to Korea and start work again.

an update or something

So I guess I should, like, update or something...  Here goes:
Two of my very good friends here have left recently and it has left me quite sad.  Eric left a few weeks ago and Betsy just left yesterday.  I know "that's Korea," but it still sucks.  It's a pretty constant revolving door of people coming and going.  However, I am eternally grateful that I was able to get close to such outstanding people and am sure that I will see them again.  It's going to be rough without them for a while though.

We did have lots of fun before they left.  Goodbye festivities kind of go on for a few days here.  For Eric's goodbye we did some touristy stuff because his friend Nathan came out to visit and fly back with him, we also went to Outback Steakhouse and bowling one night, and on his last night we had one last cookout (before it got too cold).  Eric is/was our grill master.  The we busted out the sparkling cider and toasted to Eric.  He also got to go to the orphanage one last time the day he left.  I know those kids are going to miss him.  Eric is very special to me and I will definitely miss him.

For Betsy's goodbye hooplah we watched "The Simpson's Movie," went to eat at TGI Friday's, had a grande old time singin' karaoke at a norebang, and on her last night we ate ice cream sundaes while watching "It's a Wonderful Life" on the big screen at church.  That was a lot of fun.  If that movie doesn't make you feel good there is something wrong with you.  After that we went up to the roof and shot off some fireworks and played with sparklers.  And of course, there was sparkling cider and a toast to Betsy.

So that's that.  I love my friends and I'll miss them.  Other than that things are going pretty well.  I'm going to Thailand for Christmas/New Year's with my friend Kim.  I have to take three days off of work between Christmas and New Year's to do it though.  But now my boss is claiming I didn't tell him about it so I don't really know what he's trying to pull.  At least the head teacher remembers so hopefully he can back me up.  Either way, I'm going.  I have paid for my ticket and it's way too late now.  So that's it, I'm going.  Hopefully Kim and I will have a fun and relaxing vacation.  If I can't be with my family the next best thing has got to be spending Christmas on a warm sunny beach.  Oh yes, I am excited.  It's less than two weeks away now!

That's all I got.

K... Bye!

You may now return from the edge of your seats...

It's been a while, perhaps I should update.

Let's see, since I last posted we've had two lovely holidays here in Korea.  The first was Chuseok or Chusuk, the harvest festival.  This was an awesome holiday because it gave us a 5 day weekend.  We had a big chili cookout complete with homemade apple pie.  We also went down to the stadium and had a picnic and played ultimate frisby.  It was so great to just relax and have fun with my friends and not worry about work for a few days.

The next holiday was Foundation Day.  I'm not really sure what it is, but it gave us a day off in the middle of the week, so it's great!  I went with some friends to "Everland".  Everland is a magical place where "everyday is a holiday."  It's actually an amusement park that's supposed to be based on Disneyland.  The roller coasters were ok, but the whole day was a lot of fun and a perfect excuse to be silly.  I even bought a headband with giraffe ears that I plan on wearing on Halloween.

I have also had my first experience with a norebang, i.e. a singing room.  Kim wanted to go for her birthday, which was this past Saturday, so a whole bunch of us went and sang our little hearts out to kareoke classics like "Livin' on a Prayer", "Piano Man", "Bohemian Rhapsody", and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".  Betsy and I also rocked "Sherry" and "September".  We sang a lot more songs, but those were definately the highlights.  It was so much fun.  I definately want to go back more than once.

Good times.

fanastic weekend

Well kids, what can I say?  Life is good.  On Friday I went with some friends to see The Bourne Ultimatum.  I really enjoyed it.  If you haven't seen it I recommend it.  Saturday was a very full day.  We had a little cookout, went to watch some friends play at Starbuck's, ate dinner at Outback Steakhouse, and played a little Texas Hold 'Em.  The ladies cleaned up.  We took the boys out swiftly and with ease.  It was awesome.  Sunday was nice and relaxing as usual.  After church we watched The Royal Tenenbaums.  Then I went to some friends' house for dinner.  After that I just went back to KNU and hung out with some more friends.  In all it was a great weekend filled with good friends, good food, and good movies.

Eric and I watched an episode of Trigun.  I've been told that I'd like it because I have such affection for Cowboy Bebop.  However, the main character is just not as cool as Spike.  I asked Eric if he gets cooler or if he stays that goofy.  He wouldn't tell me.  I think that means he does not get cooler, but he wants me to keep watching it and give it a chance.  I hope not though.

It's been raining like crazy here.  I'm so tired of the rain.  We actually had one nice week, but then it was all over.  I was on the elevator with one of my older students and I asked her when the rain was going to stop.  I said, "I was told the rainy season was supposed to be over in August."  Then asked, "Why is it still raining?!"  She just laughed at me.  I keep hearing that fall is the most beautiful in Korea.  Well I'd sure like to see it.  I'm looking forward to sunny days, mild temperatures, beautiful colors, and jackets.  No more rain!  Plus, the leak in my apartment still has not been fixed.  But that's Korea.

That's all for now.
